Covering the Cardiovascular System

Ms. Echols-James has been teaching her students about the cardiovascular system. Today a scientist from Emory visited to cap off the lesson.

The children learned about the amplification of sound in a stethoscope and made their own stethoscopes out of cups. They then used their stethoscope to listen to how the heart changes with exercise.

The students also learned about how nutrients travel from food to organs and did an experiment to determine what effect narrowing blood vessels has on the heart’s ability to pump blood.

Finally, students examined a picture of all the blood vessels in the head and neck. They used markers to add the facial features and hair so they could orient to where the vessels were in their own bodies.
